mem — Privacy Policy

The short version: mem has no server, no account, and no analytics. Your data lives in your browser and goes nowhere unless you connect a service or add an AI key yourself.

What mem stores

When you save a page (or run the optional history/bookmarks import), mem stores the page's title, URL, extracted text, an AI-written summary, tags, and — if you enable engagement tracking — how far you scrolled and how long you stayed. If you accept a reminder, mem stores the reminder text and time. All of it is stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB and Chrome extension storage, on your device.

What leaves your device

• Nothing, by default. With the on-device AI provider selected, summarization, recall, and reminder checking run entirely on your machine using Chrome's built-in model.
• If you add your own API key (Google Gemini or OpenAI), the content of pages you save and the questions you ask are sent to that provider — and only that provider — under your key, to produce summaries and answers. mem never proxies this through any server of its own.
• If you connect Google services (Drive, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Classroom), mem makes read-only requests to Google's APIs to import items into your local memory. Tokens are issued by Chrome's identity system; mem never sees your password.

Conversation watching (reminders)

Reminder detection on messaging sites is off by default and enabled per-site by you. Detection runs entirely on your device — rule-based matching plus Chrome's built-in on-device model. Message text is not sent anywhere. A reminder is stored only when you click "Remind me".

What mem never does

• No selling, sharing, or transferring your data to anyone.
• No analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, or crash reporting.
• No accounts, and no mem-operated servers of any kind.

Other extensions

mem can answer queries from companion extensions on the same machine (for example, a new-tab dashboard) — but only after you explicitly approve each extension by ID inside mem's settings. Unapproved requests are refused.

Your data, your controls

• Export everything as JSON from Settings at any time.
• Delete individual memories, or erase everything with one click in Settings.
• Disconnect Google services at any time in Settings; you can also revoke access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
• Uninstalling the extension deletes all locally stored data.

Google user data

mem's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Imported Google data is used only to build your local, personal memory; it is never transferred to third parties and never used for advertising.
